Hospice garden | Landscape design

Consultation & Concept

Our trusted partner, John Frater from Plantforms was asked to produce a design for a hospice garden to provide a tranquil and attractive space for enjoyment by residents, visitors and staff.

The design incorporated:

  • Curved resin bound gravel paths flowing through the garden
  • Spacious area in front of a summerhouse for sitting out and for activities
  • A variety of circular seating areas for private contemplation.

Planting was a key element of the design:

  • Winter flowering shrubs planted on both sides of summerhouse
  • The private seating areas surrounded by Box hedging with autumn flowering perennials in between
  • Bench area surrounded with low maintenance summer flowering perennials with ornamental grasses mixed through for texture, movement, height and winter interest
  • Columnar juniper trees to add height on the path to the arbour
  • Existing trees and shrubs retained and added to for greater privacy.

Garden Features

Resin bound gravel with block edgings provide smooth, attractive, low maintenance paths and circular seating areas throughout the garden.

A large octagonal summerhouse provides a central feature and attractive sheltered area. Summerhouse supplied and installed by our trusted supplier Gillies and Mackay.

A timber arbour adds softness and height to the garden.

An attractive drystone effect trough was constructed in front of the summerhouse to add texture and for feature alpine planting.

Contemporary hardwood bench and chairs provide smooth lines and attractive finishing touches.
