Redesign - Ballater

This garden re-design took us to a riverside garden in Ballater. The existing garden was not being fully utilised and the main objective was to create an attractive seating area next to the river.

This garden had some unusual shaped areas and a sloping site leading to a river.

The client's brief was to design a garden with more user friendly areas and to take advantage of the riverside setting.

The client wanted some border areas for planting and also requested that we use materials in keeping with the country location such as granite and slate.

We excavated an area near the river for a patio and constructed a soft wood deck. Midnight blue slate with granite setts was used for the patio to complement the setting and style of the property.

A large border area was created and edged with granite setts to allow colourful plants to be introduced.

Alongside the property, a  wooden walkway was constructed from decking timber and the existing patio was relaid in midnight blue slate. The walkway led to a newly created terraced border and rockery area for further planting.

A small semi-circular patio was laid at the front of the property with access via granite sett edged gravel pathways.

Completed Project

The stunning midnight blue slate contrasts perfectly with the granite setts and these materials have been used effectively to create a variety of seating areas throughout the garden.

The softwood deck provides a perfect location for a hammock overlooking the river and carefully chosen plants have been introduced to bring colour and texture to the new border areas.

Use of the same materials in the different areas of this project helped to bring a more unified feel to the whole garden.
