Extensive Landscaping Project - Scone

Our brief on this project was to re design the large rear garden and also to introduce a new access and driveway to the rear of the property.

Consultation and Concept

The client was keen to introduce a variety of different spaces to the garden and to inject a warm Mediterranean look and feel to the garden.

The existing garden included a mix of old paving, lawn and gravel.  The whole area would require to be cleared and extensive excavation work to be carried out for the new retaining wall foundations.

It was agreed to construct rendered walls to be painted terracotta which would compliment the paving and to tie in with the Mediterranean theme.  The rendered walls were to include quirky little windows to house flower pots, bringing both colour and interest.

Garden Features

Two concrete block rendered retaining walls were constructed to form a parking area and gate entrance.  A new driveway was formed using tegula blocks and a large pergola was erected.  A large gravel parking area was formed to the side of new driveway and laid with 20 mm gravel. Hedging was planted along the front boundary creating a soft screen to the entrance of the property.

We then prepared the area for the patios which were laid using autumn bronze sandstone paving. Steps were constructed to the upper patio area, also housing a soft pastel coloured timber shed. A border area was created and laid with bark and planted with various shrubs.

Palisade fences were erected to smarten up the boundaries and a new fence and gate access were introduced separating the garden from the gravel parking area.

Finishing touches included laying a new lawn, creation of a gravel planting area at the side of the shed and a tegula edge border to the existing deep red cherry tree – creating a lovely centre piece.
